Making the pattern

With the pattern paper placed at the back of the chair, crease the paper all the way around the edge of the seat to obtain the shape. Fold the paper in half to ensure the pattern is symmetrical and cut it out.

Draw around the pattern on the foam and cut with a sharp knife. Make long straight cuts. You can shape any rounded corners with some long sharp scissors (Fig. 1). Cover the foam with the polyester upholstery wadding as if you were wrapping a parcel. Then cover it with stockinette and pull tight so there are no wrinkles. Stitch so that it is flat and not bumpy (Fig. 2).
